Network of seismic stations used by KB GS RAS

For seismic monitoring of North-Western region we use our own seismic stations as well as data from IRIS consortium stations and Scandinavian seismic arrays.

The following seismic stations of KB GS RAS are in operation on Kola Peninsula:

  • Seismic array AP0 situated 17 km apart from Apatity (since 1992);

    The array is situated 17 km apart from the town of Apatity. It consists of 9 vertical short-period sensors S-500 (Geotech) and 3-component station in the centre. The sensors layout is shown in fig.

    Data from the sensors are transmitted to collection point where they are digitized using analog to digit convertors RD-3 and RD-6 (Nanometrics). Digitized data are transmitted to Apatity by direct radio-link using 3 radio-modems. In Apatity the data are placed into a disk loop where stored for two weeks. During this time the data are scanned by detecting and storing software and are rewritten to compact disks for permanent storage.

  • Digital 3C broadband seismic station APA in Apatity;

    It is situated in Apatity in KB GS RAS building. Data from broadband 3C seismometer Guralp are digitized by RD-3 (Nanometrics) and placed in the same disk loop as AP0 array data. The data are processed together with AP0 data and stored on compact disks.

  • Digital 3C short-period seismic station TER in Teriberka (since 2009);
  • Digital 3C short-period seismic station KOVD in Kovdor (since 2010);

Two digital seismic stations BRBA and BRBB are situated in Spitsbergen near Russian settlement of Barentsburg:

  • 1. 3C seismic station BRBA.

    This is a short-period 3-component seismic station GBV 316V (GeoSig, Switzerland) situated in the settlement of Barentsburg. The station is connected with a PC acquisition system, data are stored on external devices such as flash or external disks.

  • 2. 3C seismic station BRBB.

    This is a short-period 3-component seismic station GBV 316V (GeoSig, Switzerland) situated ot the North from Barentsburg in ionospheric observatory of Polar Geophysical Institute if RAS.

  • Также, в рамках международного сотрудничества, КоФ ФИЦ ЕГС РАН имеет доступ к данным норвежской сейсмической группы "SPI", принадлежащей агентству NORSAR и расположенной в пос. Кингсбей трёхкомпонентной станции KBS (IRIS).

Access to NORSAR data
